An 81-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years in prison after she admitted killing her husband because she was tired of caring for him.



Audrey Hingston told police last year that her 83-year-old husband Eric was stabbed to death as he confronted burglars at the couple's home in Devon, southwest England.


She then changed her story, saying he had committed suicide, but later admitted she killed him.


The prosecution accepted Hingston's manslaughter plea on grounds of diminished responsibility, a Plymouth Crown Court spokeswoman said on Friday.


The court heard that Eric Hingston, who was found dead in August 2003, suffered from heart problems and asthma.
