Yahoo! News - Japanese horse on a losing streak romps home

The skittish chestnut mare, who has lost 105 races in a row since her debut, has rescued ailing Kochi Race Course from being shut down, is set to star in a movie, and is guaranteed a cushy retirement instead of a trip to the slaughterhouse.

Haru-urara was in danger of sharing the fate of other equine losers last summer when officials at the race course, whose books were again in the red despite a bail-out by the prefecture, thought maybe her losing streak could help them hit pay dirt.

After a local paper wrote that her 100th loss was in sight, national media seized on the saga, depicting the horse as a symbol of the Japanese people's "never-give-up" pertinacity.
