TOKYO — Olympic table tennis star Ai Fukuhara, 15, was named honorary police chief for a day Wednesday and toured the Shinjuku district speaking with fans.

Ai-chan, decked out in a police uniform, spoke to senior citizens and cautioned them about the danger of "ore-ore" telephone scams which netted 7.7 billion yen from Jan-July for swindlers who call up elderly people, pretending to be relatives in financial trouble.

Afterward, Fukuhara played table tennis with some of her fans and hit autographed table tennis balls into the audience.
